Which service is best for you?
Second Harvest
Second Harvest offers a convenient way to donate surplus edible food to charities that support Canadians in need. Businesses can use the Second Harvest Food Rescue App to post surpluses, which local agencies then collect. Track donation metrics, including pounds donated and greenhouse gases avoided.
Ideal for:
Businesses with smaller donations (under 500 lb)
Businesses with routine surplus (for example, weekly or monthly)
Digital, self-managed experience – access the app via smartphone or browser.
Tracking – receive tax receipts (if eligible)
ESG reporting – access data on donated meals and environmental impact

Contact Second Harvest to provide basic information, such as location, product type, and what you currently have available or regularly offer. They’ll reach out and organize a first pickup, introducing you to their online app. Or, call Second Harvest at 1-833-639-2616.
FoodMesh
Food Mesh provides professional food recovery services to help businesses divert the maximum volume of unsalable food away from waste streams and onto the plates of people who need it.
Ideal for:
Bulk donations, irregular formats or complex, time-sensitive situations: Examples include truckloads of produce, short-shelf-life items or donations that require special logistics.
Coordinating logistics: FoodMesh offers a managed donation pickup service. Call the number, and a match will be confirmed within one hour, with a pick-up confirmed within two business days.
Personalized support: FoodMesh provides hands-on coordination, including matching donors with charities or farms, handling transportation, and ensuring compliance with food safety and liability regulations.
Donating unusual or hard-to-process items: FoodMesh helps donors who lack the time or expertise to manage packaging, refrigeration or distribution.
