Not much, according to Melissa Vencatasamy, co-owner of genAG, a short-line farm equipment retailer.

With a new dealership on Manitoba’s Highway 3 between Morden and Winkler, Vencatasamy has big plans for the family business, which she co-owns with her brother, Justin Kehler.

“We have distinctive products and options that differentiate farmers in a ‘main-line dominated industry,’ particularly in row crops and vegetable implements,” Melissa explains. “We like to be in that niche, which is very important in our regions. We have very high quality brands and products.”

Starting out with a rented building, genAG didn’t have the visibility or frontage they wanted. “When you work in retail, you need that presence. That’s why we were so excited to work with FCC to purchase our new building. FCC knows how our industry works.”

The new location includes lots more space for equipment and parts. It’s a big step for genAG, but certainly not the last. “We recently expanded to Portage la Prairie, which allows us quicker access to Manitoba’s row-cropped acres,” Melissa says. “We’re so glad to have a financing partner like FCC because we always keep an open mind to future expansion. FCC makes it a lot easier.”
