FCC contributes $225,000 to three university agriculture programs
Farm Credit Canada (FCC) recently committed a total of $225,000 to help support agriculture programs and research projects at three Canadian universities.
“University agriculture programs serve as innovation hubs in Canadian agriculture,” said Marty Seymour, FCC’s director of industry and stakeholder relations. “We are proud to invest in projects that support agriculture research and enhance the student experience. This will also help attract the best and the brightest into pursuing an education and future career in agriculture.”
FCC committed funding to the following projects:
- Livestock and Forage Centre of Excellence at the University of Saskatchewan received $100,000 to help fund construction of the livestock and food building for the advancement of forage and cattle production. The building’s meeting room and handling facilities will be equipped with real-time video capability, allowing in-house and distance education and outreach activities to be conducted.
- Dalhousie University’s Agricultural Campus, located in Truro Nova Scotia, received $100,000 to enhance student experience, specifically to support the development of a new Student Learning Commons. This Commons area will be used and equipped with technology for individual and collaborative work.
- Ontario Agricultural College at the University of Guelph received $25,000 to study current and future human resource needs of the province’s agriculture and agri-food sectors. The study will also help the college design teaching and training programs to ensure they are serving the needs of the industry.
“Young people are bringing new optimism and energy to agriculture in growing numbers and we want to encourage and support them every step of the way,” Seymour said. “Our contributions to post-secondary agriculture programs are helping inspire the next generation to consider careers in agriculture.”
